Bombay Sweet Shop (BSS) is a modern mithai house in Mumbai that reimagines traditional Indian sweets with creativity and flair. It blends nostalgic flavors with contemporary techniques to craft treats that prompt surprise and wonder.
They celebrate India's rich dessert heritage with a fresh twist.

CHALLENGE:
For Indian Independence Day, BSS wanted to create a box that told the story of Indian heritage in a fresh, non-literal way, avoiding overt flag imagery while still evoking national pride.

SOLUTION:

I realized the richest tribute to India’s heritage lies in its folk art and culture. Inspired by this, I explored traditional Indian folk forms and infused their spirit into the design language to create a 'Sweet Freedom Box' that feels both
rooted and reimagined.

The packaging design story

Indians share a deep emotional connection with mithai, so it was important for me to ensure the design language truly resonated with the people.
I crafted custom motifs and designed a pattern that became the heart of Bombay Sweet Shop’s Sweet Freedom Box. Featured on their Independence Day packaging, the design struck a deep chord with customers, so much so that it is now a beloved annual tradition.
Every Sweet Freedom Box ordered helped provide monthly rations to over 2,000 families across the Raigad and Palghar districts of Maharashtra. What began as a festive tribute to Indian heritage has now grown into a powerful movement.
